NOIDA — Eleven years after being selected in 2015 for development as a smart village, the 7,000 residents of Sadullapur in Greater Noida continue to live without basic infrastructure, including paved roads and functional drainage systems.

The settlement was among 14 villages earmarked by the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) with promises of reliable water supply, paved roads, and proper sewage infrastructure.

Four years ago, GNIDA dug up the main access road to lay a sewer line, but it was never restored.

Despite written requests sent to GNIDA over the last two years, access roads remain unpaved dirt tracks that turn into thick slush during the monsoon.

Key infrastructure challenges and key facts reported by residents include:

Healthcare Delays: The nearest private hospital in Greater Noida West is 3 km away, but traffic and damaged roads extend travel time to a minimum of 60 minutes. The district hospital in Noida is 18 km away.

Substandard Works: Instead of a promised tiled walkway around the village pond, an iron net was installed last year, leaving mud banks that collapse during rain. Unfulfilled Promises: Facilities such as street lighting, community centres, parks, Wi-Fi connectivity, and accessibility features for persons with disabilities have not been established.

In response to the delays, a group of residents petitioned the state government last July to rename the village ' Bharatpur'. Proponents argue that 98% of the village is Hindu and that ancestors migrated from Bharatpur, Rajasthan, attributing the lack of development to the original name associated with Mughal official Sadullah Khan.

However, other residents oppose the name change, maintaining that identity is not the issue and requesting basic facilities instead.

The official renaming process was set in motion on March 24 when the state government contacted local administration. Dadri Tehsildar AK Chaurasiya stated that formalities at the tehsil level are complete, and the proposal is currently awaiting a no-objection certificate (NOC) from GNIDA.

GNIDA Senior Manager Pradeep Kumar explained that three development projects scheduled for July were postponed due to the monsoon and the kanwar yatra route. Planned infrastructure works for Sadullapur include constructing the main village road and installing two separate drainage systems.
