Security Guard Arrested for Alleged Rape of Student in Ahmedabad
Anandnagar police arrested a 27-year-old security guard early Sunday morning for allegedly assaulting and raping a 22-year-old interior design student on a society terrace in Jodhpur late Saturday night.
The accused, identified as Dharm Singh, a native of Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district, was arrested from Hebatpur. According to police, Singh had been deployed at the society for six days and has worked for different security agencies over the past four years.
The victim, a paying guest who has lived in the city for around two years, was walking on the terrace when the accused approached her. When she refused his advances, he overpowered her, restrained her with a wire around her neck, and assaulted her for nearly an hour.
Key aspects of the case and ongoing investigation include:
- Rescue and Medical Condition: After the suspect took her phone and locked her on the terrace, she raised an alarm, was rescued by lower-floor residents, and taken to a hospital. DCP Zone-7 Shivam Verma stated her medical condition is stable, though she remains under severe trauma.
- CCTV Evidence: Sector 1 JCP Neeraj Badgujar reported that CCTV footage captured the accused taking the lift to the terrace around the time of the incident.
- Next Steps: Police will record the victim's statement, investigate if the guard knew her routine, and question the security agency regarding his registration.
