JORHAT, ASSAM: Sri Krishna Phukan, a veteran educator from Jorhat, has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Shikshak Shri-2026’ award by the Assam State Primary Teachers Association in recognition of his distinguished contribution to primary education and society. The association presented Sri Phukan with a citation of appreciation, acknowledging his decades-long service as an educator and his contribution to the development of primary education in the greater Holongapar and Salmari areas. Veteran educator, Sri Krishna Phukan began his teaching career after joining as an assistant teacher at No. 94 Fesuwal Primary School on April 24, 1954. He continued his contribution to the education sector before retiring on October 1, 1995. Sri Krishna Phukan has dedicated his life as a teacher who played an important role in shaping the lives of generations of students through education. His contribution to the intellectual, social and moral development of children, as well as his efforts towards strengthening primary education in the region, were particularly acknowledged. The association also recognised his contribution to the development of primary education in the greater Holongapar area, including his association with schools such as No. 327 Salmari Primary School. Beyond his professional responsibilities, Sri Phukan has also been associated with literature, music and cultural activities. His contribution to the social and cultural life of the Salmari area was also prominent. The ‘Shikshak Shri-2026’ award was conferred upon Sri Krishna Phukan during the 45th session of the Assam State Primary Teachers Association.
