Golaghat, Aug 9: The flood situation in Numaligarh and Morangi areas of Golaghat district has taken a serious turn, with several rivers flowing above their danger levels and continued water discharge from the Doyang Hydro Power Station in Nagaland raising concern.At 4 pm on Sunday, the Dhansiri River at Numaligarh was flowing at 79.55 metres, well above its danger level of 78.42 metres. The Doyang River at Jamuguri was also flowing above the danger mark at 97.05 metres against a danger level of 96.91 metres. The Kakodunga River at Duflating was recorded at 86.91 metres. Meanwhile, water discharge from the Doyang Hydro Power Station continued. According to the latest update at 5 pm, the reservoir water level stood at 322.33 metres against the Full Reservoir Level of 324 metres. Of the four spillway gates, Gate No. 1 was open by 1.25 metres, while Gates No. 2, 3 and 4 were each open by 1 metre. Around 156 cubic metres of water per second was being released through the spillway. The rising river levels and continued discharge have added to concerns in the Numaligarh-Morangi region, where floodwaters have already breached a major road near the embankment in the Kenduguri and Kordoiguri areas. The road breach has affected several adjoining families, with floodwaters entering and inundating residential areas. According to the official flood report of Golaghat district, 145 villages across six revenue circles are currently affected. As many as 68,239 people have been affected, while 2,006.51 hectares of agricultural land have been submerged. Morangi Revenue Circle has reported flooding in 14 villages, affecting 4,804 people and submerging 323.66 hectares of agricultural land. The six affected revenue circles are Golaghat, Bokakhat, Khumtai, Morangi, Sarupathar and Dergaon. Meanwhile, Assam’s flood-related death toll has reached 99, with several districts reporting casualties as the flood situation remains grim across the state. According to the Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS) Assam bulletin released on Saturday, the deaths comprise 58 males, 23 females and 18 children, including 12 boys and six girls.
