India made a strong start and took control of the match with two goals in the first half.
Lalremsiami opened the scoring from open play in the first quarter, while Ishika added a second late in the second quarter to give India a 2-0 lead at half-time. Japan did well to prevent India from dominating for extended periods and contained much of the Indian attack during the opening half.
