Darwin, Aug 8: Bangladesh suffered an innings and 38-run defeat against Cricket Australia XI in a three-day warm-up match on Saturday after being dismissed for 54 in their second innings. Left-arm pacer Campbell Thompson was the chief destroyer for the hosts, taking 8-25 as Bangladesh's batting lineup collapsed on the third morning ahead of their Test series against Australia.

Bangladesh resumed their second innings with two wickets down, needing to overcome a 92-run first-innings deficit. However, they were bowled out before lunch, with Tanzid Hasan being the sole batter to cross the 10-run mark by scoring 22. Thompson, a 22-year-old South Australian playing in only his second first-class game, trapped Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto lbw for a duck and took the final two wickets on consecutive deliveries. Off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli took the remaining second-innings wicket, following his six-wicket haul in the first innings.

The defeat leaves Bangladesh with four days to regroup before facing Australia in the first Test. The tour marks Bangladesh's first Test series in Australia in 23 years, where they will face an Australian pace attack featuring Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood.
