Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced on Monday that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is prepared to address Parliament regarding the crackdown on student protests, provided that opposition members do not disrupt the session.

Rijiju stated that the government offers a full and detailed discussion on the students' movement. He urged opposition members to listen to the Home Minister's statement uninterrupted rather than creating disturbances.

The remarks follow criticism from Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi regarding police action during the July 20 student protests at Jantar Mantar. Gandhi accused the government of using pellet guns, nail-studded batons, and tear gas shells against peaceful students, resulting in broken bones for minors and injuries to female students. Demanding a Supreme Court-monitored probe, Gandhi criticized Amit Shah for not coming to Parliament to address the issue in nearly 20 days.

The Lok Sabha experienced disruptions as opposition MPs protested the Jantar Mantar incident and alleged theft of donations intended for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Amid the uproar, four key Bills were introduced:

• Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2026
• Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026
• Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026
• National Co-operative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026

Parliamentary proceedings have faced repeated disruptions throughout the Monsoon Session, with six of the eight Bills passed by the Lok Sabha so far being cleared without debate.
