Shubman Gill Resumes Net Practice Following Injury in Colombo
Colombo: Indian captain Shubman Gill completed a batting session lasting over an hour at the Nondescripts Cricket Club nets, signaling positive progress following a recent impact injury.
The training session, which ran from 10:05 am to 11:25 am, was Gill's first since sustaining an injury on the eve of India's multi-day warm-up fixture. Although he initially began with taping around his thumb, he later removed it and batted without visible discomfort under the supervision of coaches Gautam Gambhir, Morne Morkel, Sairaj Bahutale, and Sitanshu Kotak.
Key details from the practice session include:
- Focus Area: Gill concentrated primarily on facing spin bowling, delivered by net bowlers Shivang Kumar, Tanush Kotian, and Vipraj Nigam.
- Coaching Discussions: Gill held long and animated discussions with batting coach Sitanshu Kotak during breaks.
- Medical Assessment: Head physio Kamlesh Jain conducted a quick check following the session and appeared satisfied with Gill's progress.
Despite returning to practice, Gill remains unlikely to feature in the ongoing warm-up match as team management seeks to avoid risking him before crucial upcoming fixtures. Meanwhile, India will soon name a replacement for Sai Sudharsan, who has been ruled out of the series, with Shaik Rasheed, Sarfaraz Khan, and Ruturaj Gaikwad emerging as the top contenders.
