Itanagar/Roing, Sept 22: Police on Tuesday revisited the spot where Gangtok-based rapper Ugen Namgyal Bhutia, popularly known as UNB, was allegedly assaulted by unidentified men in Arunachal Pradesh’ Lower Dibang Valley. The rapper and his team were accompanied by police to the crime scene near Tiwari Gaon, where investigators gathered evidence as they stepped up efforts to identify the attackers.

Roing Police Station Officer-in-Charge Taniya Uli said an FIR has been registered and surrounding check posts alerted to track suspects matching the vehicle descriptions provided by the victims. The incident occurred around 6 pm on Monday when UNB and his team were returning to Roing after a live performance at a festival in Anini.

UNB was the Day 1 headliner at the festival, held on September 19 and 20. According to UNB’s manager, Deep Dhar, two vehicles with mud-smeared number plates followed their car for nearly an hour before blocking their path along a secluded jungle stretch.

Dhar said eight to 10 men then confirmed UNB’s identity inside the vehicle before allegedly attacking the rapper and his manager with metal rods. Other members of the team were spared, he said.

“UNB sustained head and facial injuries along with eye swelling. He underwent medical evaluation and is currently in stable condition, suffering minor injuries,” officials said.

The vehicle was also significantly damaged in the attack, according to local media reports. Dhar said the attackers fled after an approaching truck reached the spot.

50 pm on Monday evening, with the delay attributed to severe mobile network outages in the area. The lack of direct eyewitnesses and persistent connectivity problems in the remote terrain have posed challenges to the investigation.

Further probe is underway to identify the culprits and determine the motive behind the alleged assault.
