Manjeet Kaur (Image Credit: Instagram) CHANDIGARH: A 28-year-old social media influencer, a brutal attack in a forested area, two acquaintances named in an FIR and a seven-week pregnancy revealed in an autopsy report — the death of Manjeet Kaur has left a trail of disturbing details nearly two months after she was allegedly abducted from Chandigarh and set on fire in Morinda. Kaur died at PGIMER on August 26 from injuries sustained in the alleged attack.

Her autopsy has now revealed that she was nearly seven weeks pregnant when she died. Abducted from Chandigarh, burnt in MorindaAccording to a complaint by Kaur’s mother, Kanta Devi, two acquaintances, Shubhi and Pinda, called her to Sector 34 in Chandigarh on the intervening night of July 3 and 4.

They allegedly assaulted Kaur, forced her into a vehicle and took her to a forested area near Morinda. There, they allegedly tied her to a tree and set her on fire before fleeing.

Another acquaintance later reached the spot and reportedly managed to extinguish the flames using a blanket. Kaur suffered severe burn injuries and was first taken to a hospital in Morinda.

She was subsequently treated at Max Hospital in Mohali before being shifted to PGIMER in Chandigarh, where she remained under treatment until her death. A statement she wanted to give, but never didThe case has also brought the response of Kharar Sadar police under scrutiny.

Sources said Kaur regained consciousness during her treatment at PGIMER and wanted to have her statement recorded. The PGIMER police post reportedly informed Kharar Sadar police that she was conscious and in a condition to give a statement.

The information was also conveyed to the investigating officer, but he allegedly did not reach the hospital, sources said. A daily diary report was also recorded at the PGIMER police post regarding the communication.

Kaur died on August 26. The PGI police post again informed Kharar Sadar police, following which the investigating officer reached the hospital.

What we know so farFIR after her deathKaur’s mother was subsequently taken to the Sector 34 police station, where her statement was recorded and an FIR for kidnapping and murder was registered on August 27. The FIR names Shubhi and Pinda as the accused.

Police are now trying to trace and arrest the two. Kaur’s postmortem was conducted at PGI on August 28, after which her body was handed over to the family.
