Agartala, Sept 20: TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has indicated that he may step away from active political positions, saying he wants to remain directly connected with the people of Tripura and speak more freely on issues affecting them. In a video message posted on the social media, Debbarma said holding a formal party position sometimes makes it difficult to balance organisational and public interests.

“I will stay in Tripura and stand by the people,” Debbarma said. He disclosed that a plenary session of the TIPRA Motha would be convened next month after the Village Committee elections to discuss the party’s future course of action, including his political role.

His remarks came amid ongoing discussions over the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, which has remained a key issue in his engagement with the BJP and the Centre. Debbarma also expressed disappointment over developments within the TIPRA Motha.

Referring to allegations of corruption and administrative irregularities in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), he said his efforts to bring about changes had not produced the desired results. He rued that these developments had also affected his image as the party face.

He stressed that relinquishing a formal political position would not mean withdrawing from public life. Instead, his method of working would change while his commitment to safeguarding the interests of Tripura’s people would remain unchanged, he pointed out.
