Marco Arment, the indie developer behind Overcast and Instapaper and former chief technology officer at Tumblr, has launched Unforgetful , a new task management app for iOS and Mac designed as an alternative to Apple's built-in Reminders application.
The application works directly with a user's existing Reminders database while introducing a more persistent notification and snooze system. In his announcement on Friday, Arment explained his motivation: “Siri, for all of its faults, has always been very good at creating tasks in Apple’s Reminders app… The Reminders app, though, doesn’t fit me at all.
I don’t like how it looks, how it works, or how it’s organized. Hell, I don’t even like its icon.
There’s nothing about it I like. So I never open it.”
Arment specifically addressed shortcomings in the standard system, such as tasks going unfinished due to forgotten deadlines or reminders being permanently lost when accidentally dismissed instead of snoozed.
Key features of the Unforgetful application include:
Persistent Notifications: Alerts continue to repeat until a task is explicitly marked done and deleted. Scaled Snoozing: Snooze intervals scale progressively without overwhelming the user with simultaneous alerts.
Direct Database Integration: Syncs seamlessly with Apple Reminders, allowing standard Siri task creation without requiring data exports if users decide to switch back. Streamlined Design: Omits tags, modes, and complex organizational tools to maintain simplicity.
Additional Tools: Features an in-app microphone for voice reminders alongside dedicated widgets for the Lock Screen and Control Center. 99 per year.
