Jorhat, Aug 20: Jorhat Police have arrested another person in connection with the death of 18-year-old Anwesha Saikia at Gauri Apartments in Daho Bora Chuk, as a three-member forensic team from Guwahati began collecting evidence from the apartment on Thursday. A team of Jorhat Sadar Police arrested Ankit Das during a night raid at Milan Nagar in Jorhat.

Das had allegedly been absconding since Saikia’s death and is currently being interrogated by police. An official said Das would also be taken to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital for a medical examination.

The arrest came as the forensic team arrived in Jorhat to examine the flat where Saikia reportedly collapsed on the night of August 15. Accompanied by Jorhat Police, the team examined the scene and collected samples, including fingerprints and other material that could assist the investigation.

Police said Saikia was allegedly present at the gathering along with prime accused Aryan Goswami, Das and two women. Goswami had claimed that Saikia died of a drug overdose.

However, the circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation, with police awaiting forensic and post-mortem findings. The two women arrested earlier have allegedly accused Das of supplying drugs to Saikia.

Police are investigating the allegations. With Das’s arrest, four people have now been arrested in connection with the case.
