By The Local News Desk Garbhanga, Guwahati | September 6, 2026 Garbhanga witnessed a vibrant gathering of students, nature enthusiasts and butterfly lovers on Sunday as the Lepidopteran Society of Assam organised a special Butterfly Walk to promote biodiversity awareness and field-based documentation. The event was organised in collaboration with Aranyak, AWRRO, Big Butterfly Month, Wild Tales, Wiki Loves Birds and the Assam Forest Department .

Students from Gauhati University and Cotton University , along with several butterfly enthusiasts, participated in the field exploration. More than 40 butterfly species were recorded during the walk, offering participants an opportunity to observe and document butterflies in their natural habitat while learning about their identification, behaviour and ecological importance.

The event also incorporated wildlife photography, with a concept photography competition encouraging participants to creatively capture butterflies and their relationship with the surrounding environment. The organisers highlighted the importance of such field activities in encouraging young people and citizens to participate in biodiversity documentation and conservation.

The Butterfly Walk also served as a reminder of the ecological richness of the Garbhanga landscape , where natural habitats continue to support diverse wildlife close to Guwahati.
