Shillong, Oct 23: Meghalaya Police have sought additional central paramilitary forces after a petrol bomb was hurled at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office at Shyiap early Thursday, marking the fourth such attack reported in Shillong within 48 hours. The bomb landed on the steps leading to the building, damaging window panes.
No one was injured in the incident. “We are on the hunt for the miscreants,” SP (City) Dangsan Khyriem said, adding that police had not identified any angle behind the attacks so far.
Police are examining CCTV footage in an effort to identify those involved. Earlier attacks since October 20 were reported from Kench's Trace, Keating Road, Laitumkhrah and Langkyrding.
“Despite daily naka checking, mobile patrolling, and foot patrolling being conducted across all areas of Shillong city and its outskirts, a petrol bomb attack was reported yesterday in Langkyrding. However, no damage was caused,” he said.
Khyriem said police would continue and intensify naka checking and patrolling to maintain law and order. “We will continue with our nakas, we will increase our nakas and we have also requisitioned central forces from today onwards.
We want to ensure the public is safe and law and order is stable,” he said. Police have registered a case and are examining CCTV footage and other evidence as part of the investigation.
