Agartala, Sept 2: The Tipra Motha Party (TMP) is likely to hold talks with the BJP's central leadership in Delhi next week over an electoral understanding for the upcoming elections to the village committees of the TTAADC."There was no meeting with visiting BJP national general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh and the party's coordinator for the Northeast, Sambit Patra, here. A meeting is likely to be held between the two parties in Delhi before September 8, the last day for submission of nomination papers," TMP MLA Ranjit Debbarma said, on Wednesday. Santosh, who arrived here on a two-day visit to review the party's preparations for the elections, held a meeting with Chief Minister Manik Saha, state BJP president Abhishek Debbarma and former state party president Rajib Bhattacharjee on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Santosh held a separate meeting with Saha, state BJP president, ministers, MLAs and senior party leaders at the BJP state headquarters here to finalise the party's strategy for the elections. Debbarma said TMP MLAs and members of the district council (MDCs) had been asked to select candidates for all 4,599 seats in the 587 village committees at the earliest. He said the party's election committee, headed by general secretary Brishaketu Debbarma, met here on Tuesday and decided to contest the village committee elections on its own if required. "We have asked our MLAs and MDCs to start the process of selecting candidates for all 4,599 seats. The party is also prepared to contest the elections alone if an alliance does not materialise," Debbarma said. Election to 587 village committees of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) is scheduled on September 28, while counting of votes will take place on October 5. PTI
