SHIMLA: At least seven people were killed and 11 others injured after a private bus overturned and plunged onto a lower road in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district at around 7:15 am on Saturday.

The bus was travelling from Bairagarh to Chamba with approximately 20 to 25 passengers onboard when the accident occurred near Chalunj Mor (curve) on the Bairagarh-Tissa road. The 27-kilometre mountain route through the remote Churah Valley is known for its narrow stretches and steep drop-offs and serves as a key route to the high-altitude Sach Pass.

Key details of the emergency response and casualties include:

• Injured Transported: All 11 injured passengers were shifted to a hospital, with six of them referred to Pt Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital in Chamba for further treatment.
• Rescue Deployment: A search and rescue team comprising personnel from the NDRF, police, home guards, and fire services was dispatched to the scene.
• Pending Information: Further details regarding the identities of those killed and injured are currently awaited.

Chamba Superintendent of Police Vijay Saklani stated that the cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained and that police will investigate the circumstances leading to the mishap.
