Global Market: Norway sovereign fund reveals stake in Musk’s SpaceX
Norway’s $2.3 trillion sovereign wealth fund held a 0.05% stake in SpaceX worth $1.22 billion as of June 30, according to an updated list of holdings released by the fund on Tuesday, Reuters reported. The disclosure marks the first time the fund has publicly listed its investment in the private space company. Reuters reported that the SpaceX holding is relatively modest compared with the fund’s positions in some of the world’s largest technology companies. The fund held a 1.28% stake in Nvidia worth $62 billion, a 1.24% holding in Apple valued at $52 billion and a 1.17% stake in Alphabet worth $50 billion. Its investment in Microsoft stood at 1.27%, valued at $35 billion, while its 1.7% stake in Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing was worth $34 billion, fund data showed, Reuters reported. The Norwegian sovereign wealth fund invests revenues generated from the country’s oil and gas production and owns an average of about 1.5% of all listed companies globally, making it the world’s largest single investor.Overall, the fund has investments in around 7,100 companies worldwide, alongside holdings in stocks, real estate and renewable energy projects.SpaceX shares surged following its record-breaking IPO in late June but later retreated sharply as investors questioned whether the company’s valuation, at about 77 times expected revenue, could be justified. The investment also highlights potential governance concerns for the Norwegian fund as a minority shareholder. SpaceX founder Elon Musk controls more than 80% of the company’s voting rights and holds the roles of chairman, chief executive officer and chief technology officer, raising questions about the influence and rights of independent shareholders.(Disclaimer: Recommendations, suggestions, views, and opinions given by experts are their own.
