Guwahati, Sept 26: The police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the suspicious death of a 22-year-old Gauhati University student at a homestay in Dharapur. The accused has been identified as Aashique Ali, who is currently in police custody.

However, police have not yet established whether that account is accurate. “We are yet to ascertain that claim,” the official said, adding that investigators are trying to establish the exact number of people present at the homestay when the incident occurred.

“It will be premature to say what happened right now as the investigation is underway,” he said. Meanwhile, Nimisha’s father has made allegations about the circumstances surrounding her death.

According to him, Nimisha left home at around 5 pm on Friday, telling her family that she was going out to eat. She later told them that she would be staying at a hostel with a friend.

At around 2 am, she called her mother and allegedly said, “Maa, they are kicking me in the chest. I cannot brea the.”

Her father said there was no further response from Nimisha after that and that she did not make another call. “I raised my 22-year-old daughter.

Those who killed my daughter should be punished in the same manner in which they killed her. At a time when I should have been thinking about her marriage, I now have to think about her funeral pyre,” he said.

There have also been reports of injury marks on Nimisha’s body. However, these claims have not been independently verified by The Assam Tribune.
