Sonapur, Sept 18: Zubeen Garg’s songs and melodies reverberated across Zubeen Kshetra on Friday as the second day of the three-day Zubeen Divas observance turned into a day-long musical tribute to the artiste. Titled ‘Geete-Mate Zubeen Bandana’, the day’s programme featured artistes and cultural groups performing some of Garg’s popular songs, drawing admirers to the memorial at Kamarkuchi.
“The cultural programme is going on and started from 12 noon. People from across the State have come, from children to elders.
The committee has managed to give time to as many performers as possible,” Garg’s wife Garima Saikia Garg said. “Zubeen’s songs will be performed, along with dance performances to his songs,” she said.
The Kshetra witnessed a steady flow of admirers throughout the day, with fans singing Garg’s songs and artistes sketching and painting his portraits. Some admirers also brought handwoven gamosas carrying lyrics from his songs as offerings.
The memorial was decorated with flowers and gamosas, while arrangements were made to accommodate visitors attending the three-day observance. The musical tribute came a day after Zubeen Divas began at the Kshetra on Thursday with an interfaith prayer and Naam-Prasanga.
Garg’s wife had also visited the memorial on the opening day and paid tribute to the singer. The three-day programme to remember Garg, a year after his death, organised by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, in collaboration with the Kalaguru Artists Foundation, will conclude on Saturday.
The final day will shift the focus to spiritual and traditional cultural observances, with Bhagawat Naam scheduled during the day, followed by a Bhaona in the evening.
