The Alaskan cruise ship Wilderness Legacy recently rescued a small skiff stranded near Farragut Bay after the boat ran out of fuel. According to tracking data reviewed by the Alaska Beacon and Halifax Shipping News, Mark Zuckerberg's super yacht, Launchpad , was the closest vessel to the scene at the time.
Michael Love, a passenger on the Wilderness Legacy, posted on Bluesky that the cruise ship's captain announced Launchpad was closer but repeatedly refused to respond. Automatic Identification System (AIS) tracking data indicates Launchpad stopped near the entrance of the bay before Wilderness Legacy passed it, turned around, and towed the stranded boat to safety.
Key facts regarding the incident include:
, the US Coast Guard determined the skiff was not in distress and issued a marine assistance request broadcast, according to Coast Guard Public Affairs Specialist Shannon Shepard. Spokesperson Response: Brian Baker, spokesperson for Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, told The Verge that Zuckerberg and his family were not on board.
He stated the crew was operating on a different radio channel and, by the time they reviewed the Coast Guard contact, the rescue was already underway. The US Coast Guard and the Marine Exchange of Alaska did not immediately respond to requests for comment from The Verge.
