MCX Achieves Record Daily Turnover of Rs 62.93 Lakh Crore
KOLKATA: The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) achieved its highest-ever single-day turnover on August 28, 2026, recording ₹62.93 lakh crore amid robust activity in commodity derivatives trading.
Trade statistics published on the exchange's website revealed that the milestone turnover was executed across more than 3.13 crore contracts in futures and options segments.
Key details of the trading figures include:
- Total Turnover: ₹62,93,465.46 crore across more than 3.13 crore contracts
- Options Segment: ₹61,84,516.04 crore
- Futures Segment: ₹1,08,949.42 crore
The record volume follows recent measures by the exchange to strengthen connections between the physical commodity market and its derivatives trading platform. Earlier this year, MCX introduced Good Delivery Norms for primary aluminium, refined copper, and refined zinc.
The delivery framework outlines guidelines for empanelling producing plants and accepting metal for exchange contract deliveries. It incorporates plant-level auditing, assaying, and testing to establish consistent quality standards and improve the acceptability of deliverable metals, thereby supporting broader hedging and market participation.
Commenting on the development, Naveen Mathur, Director – Commodities, Currencies and GIFT City, IFSC at Anand Rathi Share and Stock Brokers, noted that the increased activity reflects the growing role of organized commodity markets.
"The rise in participation on MCX demonstrates the increasing relevance of organised commodity markets for hedgers, traders and investors," Mathur said. "Initiatives that strengthen the linkage between the physical and derivatives markets, including standardised delivery and quality frameworks, add credibility to the ecosystem. Continued product innovation and broader participation should help deepen India’s commodity markets further."
