GUWAHATI: The Assam government has announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each for 11 individuals who were injured during an alleged firing incident along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh interstate border in Dhemaji district on August 10.

The violence occurred at Bodoti village under Ming Mang Gaon Panchayat when local villagers were allegedly attacked by armed miscreants from Arunachal Pradesh amid a dispute involving agricultural land encroachment.

State Education Minister and Dhemaji MLA Ranoj Pegu, deputed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to assess the situation, announced that the Chief Minister approved the financial aid and cheques would be distributed to the victims on Saturday.

The 11 injured individuals have been identified as:

• Sanjay Tayung
• Rohit Doley

Minister Pegu visited the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh on Friday, where eight victims are receiving medical care in the Super Speciality Block under Superintendent Dr Dhrubajyoti Bhuyan. Pegu confirmed that one surgery was completed, an eye surgery was scheduled for another victim, and doctors confirmed that all patients are out of danger.

Following the clash and subsequent protests, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma contacted Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu to request a formal inquiry. Khandu assured an impartial probe as both state administrations work to maintain peace and deploy security personnel in sensitive border areas.
