Asian Games 2026 Day 8 Live Updates: A busy day of Asian Games action sees Indian athletes and teams compete across a wide range of disciplines, with several semifinal and final berths secured alongside a number of quarterfinal exits. The day begins with a medal assured in boxing as Ankush beats Nekruz Salimov of Tajikistan in the men’s 80kg quarterfinal.
India also has Parveen, Sachin Siwach and Narender scheduled for later quarterfinal bouts. In weightlifting, Harjinder Kaur ends the women’s 69kg competition in ninth place after posting a 204kg total.
Badminton produces mixed results, with PV Sindhu losing to Chen Yu Fei and Unnati Hooda going down to Akane Yamaguchi in the women’s singles quarterfinals. In shooting, Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh and Rahi Sarnobat compete in the women’s 25m pistol precision qualification. After the first day of women’s trap qualifying, Neeru stands first, followed by Aashima Ahlawat in 16th and Manisha Keer in 24th.
Kynan Chenai leads India’s men’s trap contingent in 11th, with Shapath Bharadwaj 22nd and Ahvar Rizvi 35th. Athletics sees Tejaswin Shankar remain in medal contention in the decathlon, sitting third with the javelin and 1500m still ahead.
Sreeshankar Murali and David Solomon qualify for the men’s long jump final, while Vithya Ramraj, Anu Raghavan and Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan advance to their respective 400m hurdles finals. Manju Rani finishes sixth in the women’s marathon race walk, while Priyanka Goswami is disqualified.
