Colombo: India captain Shubman Gill is unlikely to feature in India's ongoing three-day warm-up fixture at the NCC after sustaining an injury during training. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) described his absence on the opening day as a precautionary measure following an impact injury to his right ring finger.

Gill accompanied the team to the ground and observed proceedings from the makeshift dugout alongside the support staff. He showed no visible discomfort during the match.

Key highlights from the opening day include:

• Devdutt Padikkal batted at No. 4 after opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for a duck, with Gill remaining in training gear.
• Gill visited the nets and held a lengthy discussion on batting with seamer Gurnoor Brar.
• Team management decided Gill will sit out the remainder of the warm-up match as a precaution.

While Gill's finger is reported to be in good shape, the management chose not to take any risks ahead of the upcoming series. The Indian team will remain in Colombo for one day after the warm-up match before traveling to Galle on August 11 to prepare for the Test opener on August 15.
