Guwahati, Aug 12: The State Cabinet has approved the decision to release Rs 2,100 crore for land acquisition for the proposed satellite city coming up near the Guwahati airport. The total cost of land acquisition is around Rs 4,000 crore. The process of land acquisition has already started. The Cabinet on Tuesday also decided to resume the Mukhyamantrir Jeevan Prerona scheme under which more than 48,000 aspiring postgraduate students would be given an amount Rs 2,500 each for a period of one year as financial assistance with effect from September 1. The State Cabinet also decided that to facilitate foreign language training interested youths would be given a scholarship of Rs 1.5 lakh under the Chief Minister’s Foreign Language Initiative for Global Human Talent. It was also decided that an amount of Rs 450 crore would be released by the State government for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) as the first instalment as was approved in the State budget. An amount of Rs 900 crore was earmarked for the BTC in the State budget. The State Cabinet also approved the decision to exempt small tea growers, whose annual income do not exceed Rs 10 lakh, from agricultural income tax. In another decision, members of the Moran and Matak communities aged over 18 years have been allowed to apply for Aadhaar cards before March 31. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who chaired the State Cabinet meeting, informed that a lease agreement for setting up a five-star hotel by the Tata Group at Jagiroad has also been approved. Another power-purchase agreement related to a 25-MW solar plant at Namrup was also given the Cabinet nod. The State Cabinet also decided to provide NCL (non-creamy layer) certificate to all the six communities which feature in the State OBC list. Further, as per Supreme Court guidelines, the Cabinet has made it mandatory to provide police verification certificate within six months to anyone joining a State government job.
