BSE shares are set to replace Wipro on its peer NSE's benchmark index Nifty 50, with Nuvama estimating inflows worth $695 million for the shares of Asia's oldest stock exchange.The National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Monday announced the rejig of its indices, with BSE shares replacing IT major Wipro on its benchmark index from September 30 onwards, along with several changes to its other indices as well. According to Nuvama Institutional Equities, BSE will see inflows worth $695 million as a result of its inclusion in the Nifty 50 index, while Wipro will see outflows worth $240 million.BSE shares have fallen around 6% in a month but are overall up 37% in 2026 so far and 50% in a year. In the longer term, the shares of the stock exchange have delivered strong returns of 1,101% over three years and 2,791% over five years.Wipro shares meanwhile have gained 6% in a month, but are down 31% in 2026 so far and 23% in a year, delivering negative returns of more than 10% over three years and 38% over five years.Also read | BSE to replace Wipro in Nifty 50 indexWhy is BSE replacing Wipro on the Nifty 50 index?NSE noted that BSE has been included in Nifty 50 index as the six-month average free-float market capitalisation of the company within eligible universe is at least 1.5 times that of the smallest constituent, which is Wipro (Rs 55,930 crore).TVS Motor Company and Divi’s Laboratories were the other two eligible names not considered for inclusion in the Nifty 50 index as the average free-float market capitalisation of the two Nifty 50 constituents with lowest average free-float market capitalisation (after Wipro) namely HDFC Life Insurance Company (Rs. 65,666 crores) and Tata Consumer Products (Rs. 73,054 crores) was less than 1.5 times the six-month average free-float market capitalisation, NSE added.NSE indices rejigOther NSE indices will also see several inclusions and exclusions. Around 27 companies including some notable names like Bikaji Foods International, Leela Palaces Hotels & Resorts, Niva Bupa Health Insurance Company, Pfizer, Sapphire Foods India and Saregama India will be excluded from the Nifty 500 index, while Vedanta Aluminium Metal, Vedanta Iron and Steel, Vedanta Oil and Gas, Vedanta Power, Bharat Coking Coal, Avanti Feeds, Cupid, Thangamayil Jewellery and several others will be added to the index.IHCL, Lodha Developers, REC, Shree Cement and United Spirits will be replaced by BSE, Hitachi Energy India, Polycab India, Vedanta Aluminium Metal and Vodafone Idea on the Nifty 100 index.Nifty Smallcap, Nifty Midcap, Nifty Next 50 and several others indices will also see such inclusions and exclusions, as per NSE’s official press release.Also read |Nifty rejig: IT major Wipro to move out of benchmark index after BSE gets inclusion(Disclaimer: Recommendations, suggestions, views and opinions given by the experts are their own.
