Kharge appointed Pargat Singh as the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress CommitteeFormer Olympian and Jalandhar Cantt MLA Pargat Singh has been appointed as the new president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), replacing Amarinder Singh Raja Warring. Announcing the appointment on X, the Congress wrote, " Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed Pargat Singh as the president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect.

This comes shortly after Warring met former Rahul Gandhi on Friday and formally submitted his resignation as the Punjab unit chief. “I met Rahul Gandhi and formally gave him my resignation,” Warring told reporters after the meeting.

Earlier, Warring also hinted that AICC in-charge Sachin Pilot may have decided that it was time for him to step down. “Given my long journey in politics, I feel that Sachin Pilot must have decided it was time to remove ' Raja' from the post.

“Otherwise, there is no specific issue. I have conveyed what I had to say to Rahul Gandhi.

There is no one left after Rahul Gandhi to whom I could explain what should or shouldn't happen,” he added. The leadership change comes ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly polls and against the backdrop of longstanding factional differences within the state unit.

The Congress had recently replaced AICC in-charge Bhupesh Baghel, who had spent weeks in Punjab attempting to address differences within the party, with Sachin Pilot.
