Guwahati, Aug 15: Assam's flood toll rose to 104 after one more person died in Sivasagar district, while the number of affected people increased marginally to over 78,000 across seven districts, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). An official bulletin released on Friday said floodwaters continued to affect 20 revenue circles and 313 villages in Nagaon, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Kamrup, Hojai, Jorhat and Lakhimpur districts. The number of affected districts remained unchanged from the previous day. Golaghat remained the worst-hit district with 30,778 affected people, followed by Nagaon with 26,292 and Sivasagar with 12,480. On Thursday, the number of affected people stood at around 77,500. The administration is currently operating 31 relief camps, sheltering more than 5,000 displaced persons, besides running 37 relief distribution centres in the affected areas. The ASDMA bulletin stated that 8,268.71 hectares of crop land remain submerged, while 42,105 animals have been affected by the floods. Damage to houses, roads and bridges has also been reported from several affected districts. Meanwhile, an eight-member medical team from the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) left for Assam on Friday to provide healthcare support in the flood-hit areas. RDA president Dr Akhtar Ali said the team, carrying medicines and other relief materials, was flagged off from JNMC by AMU Vice Chancellor Prof Mohsin Khan and the university's Public Relations Officer. The doctors will spend at least four days in the affected districts, conducting health camps and providing medical treatment, medicines and humanitarian assistance to flood victims. "The team will organise health camps and ensure medical support reaches people affected by the floods," Dr Ali said. The arrival of the medical team comes as authorities continue relief and rehabilitation efforts amid concerns over post-flood health issues in several affected areas of the state. PTI
