Guwahati: Gauhati University officially welcomed its incoming batch of Post-Graduate students at a Central Orientation Programme held on campus, marking the beginning of the new academic session. Addressing the freshers, Vice Chancellor Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta urged students to look beyond academic scores and focus on holistic growth. While grades play a immediate role, he noted, the core values, skills, and knowledge cultivated during university life serve as the true long-term assets. Prof. Mahanta also encouraged the batch to draw inspiration from the university’s rich heritage while responsibly leveraging modern tools like artificial intelligence and technology to navigate the future. The event saw the presence of several distinguished guests, including retired IPS officer and former Special ADGP (SB) Assam, Hiren Ch. Nath, along with Assam Gaurav awardee Anupam Deka. Key university administrators and representatives were also in attendance to usher in the new cohort, including Registrar Prof. Utpal Sarma, Academic Registrar Prof. Rajib Handique, Secretary of University Classes Dr. Ranjan Kr. Kakati, and Post-Graduate Students' Union (PGSU) General Secretary Prabal Jyoti Sarma. The orientation concluded with interactive sessions aimed at introducing the incoming postgraduates to campus life, academic expectations, and available resources as they embark on their higher education journey.
